It has been quite a while since I last had a journal message & quite a bit has been going on.

I'm now the President of the Macarthur Art Society after our annual general meeting a few weeks ago.  I'm now awaiting set of aviator glasses, epaulets, riding crop, and strech limmo as per the standard dress of el presidente; wait I'd end up looking like Michael Jackson.  Cancel that order.

The Art Group is now meeting for plein air painting sessions once a month at the local botanical gardens.  So we now meet twice a month, once for painting and once for drawing.  Should really help the skill levels.Yay.

Today we had a portrait work shop with Dave Thomas, an extraordinarily talented painter.  It was great.  The saying "Struggle+effort=reward" couldn't be truer for me.  I was working in acrylics while everyone else was working in oils which made blending almost impossible for me.  After wanting to drop my canvas in the bin, I persisted and achieved a great result.

The amazing part of it was that I ended up using the acrylic as an under painting for my first ever oil painting.  One kind member offered me her brush & used pallet after she had finished.  I have never used oils before today, but will be going out & getting a set ASAP.  I'll post the painting soon, it's still a WIP as the background is incomplete as is the models dress.

During the session I was so flustered that I accidentally drank a cup of watercolour  paint washings instead of a coffee!  I noticed in time that it was a plastic cup & not a coffee cup and spat the water back into the cup!  Lucky it wasn't the turps!!!

Yes, I'm fine as I'm in Sydney & we have only had lots of rain & high humidity :( .I FaceBooked my brother last night because he lives on the Gold Coast in Queensland. He's ok too, the flooding is further north. The radio report this morning said that the flood has just peaked, but is about 1m lower than the expected max.

Now comes the hard part, cleaning out the stinking mud & debris from the flood & re-building. They haven't had a flood like this since 1974 when cyclone Tracey hit & caused lots of flooding. Probably will have a big impact on the economy; Queensland has the second largest reserve of coaking coal in the world & right now that's under water. So that's probably going to also impact on our Iron exports (esp to China).

Hey it was about this time last year, while we were in the USA, that Hati was hammered. I hear very little has changed there, despite a fortune being sent their as aid money.

When Hurricane Catrina hit Louisiana it ended up creating a lot of jobs for any one willing to travel to help in the clean up. Go figure, all these years later and the place is still not fully recovered.

I was watching videos on the internet of people's cars floating down rivers of water like rafts and thought to my self this is peculiar considering the continent is mostly a desert. What a site. I'm Glad to hear that you are ok.

It's a real mess. Cars floating around, houses floating around. All the snakes are fleeing to higher ground ie houses. Of course that are very poisonous, so that just adds to the fun. But most ppl have been evacuated to halls etc.

We saw on the TV show "Top Gear" parts of Louisiana 1 year after the storm. OMG looked kind of like a ghost town/3rd world location. In the USA! Go figure.

One of my Uni mates who works with me is off with the army reserve to do some work up there tomorrow. They asked him to bring his tool entrenching! LOL

Sorry, I'm trying to get rid of it actually. I set it up just for fun but haven't had any interest in it so it's going. Try joining some of the other acrylic groups.
